Dog Coat Sizing

Here is a brief 3-step reminder showing how to measure a dog to get perfectly fitting coats or jackets. Choose the right size for your dog. Please use these basic steps as a guide to help you choose the perfect coat size.

 1. Measure your dog.

These three measurements will help you find the right size of your dog and its coat.

  • Length – measure the base of their neck and tail. It will determine the size of the dog coat to buy. Please consider taking a girth measurement as well.
  • Neck – measure around the throat where collars are usually stacked.
  1.   Dog coat measurements are via centimeters. So, take note of the number of cm’s after measuring your pooch pal. You will use this in selecting the size of dog coat to purchase.
  1.   If you’re unsure about your measurement, contact your nearest stockist. Reach out to someone who has a vast knowledge of dog sizing. And arrange a dog fitting to know the size for a new coat. If your dog is in between two sizes, it’s best to go for the larger size. There are new dog coat features that allow you to change or adjust the fit.

For further guidelines in measuring, please consider looking at a chart (for dog sizes).

How should a dog coat fit?

Typically, a dog coat should cover the entire body of your dog. It begins at the neck or collar and extends to the tail. Dog coats come in two styles: jackets and blankets.

So it’s cool if the coat is too short or too long. After all, it depends on the style. A jacket-style coat must cover the dog’s chest, shoulders, thighs, and stomach.

In a blanket-style, the coat should rest on top of its back. It isn’t required to cover the belly. Dogs are freer to move and can find comfort when their coats are well-fitted.

Please keep in mind that you must be able to run your hands between the collar region to decide if it suits them perfectly. Always remember the maxim, comfort before style. But, with today’s vast choices, you can do it both ways.
