How to Cook Chicken for Dogs: Healthy Chicken Recipe for Dogs

Nowadays, people don’t have much time to devote to cooking for the family. Due to the advent of technology, our perspective towards daily activities also shifted rapidly, prompting the easiest and fastest practices at home, school, and community. The online world offers a vast spectrum of choices, from DIY crafts to life hacks, all geared toward our convenience, accessible by everyone.

Many foods are being advertised in the market to hook buyers up with its promise to give healthy consumables. Our goal is to whip up a delicious and nutritious meal at home that grants budget and fitness all in one. Nevertheless, nothing beats homemade meals for our hungry bellies. If humans love freshly cooked meals, dogs also deserve nutritious delicacies to foster their healthy diet.

Cooking food for your dog doesn’t have to be a heavy load at home. There are many ingredients to choose from as we know it, such as chicken meat that is vastly popular worldwide and other favorites: fish, pork, beef, etc. Here, we’ll examine why chicken meat is one of the top food suggestions for your dog in this read.

What are the benefits of chicken meat?

Chicken has always been a delicious option for a protein-rich meal, safe and savory. This is an excellent source of Omega-6 fatty acids, which substantially benefits your dog’s skin and coat. Also, chicken is enriched with essential amino acids and glucosamine that keeps bones healthy and strong. Since protein is the primary energy-giving nutrient for dogs, the protein found in chicken meat increases this profit without the high-calorie content. All the while, it supports your dog’s metabolism, making them active throughout the day.

What are the hazards of using chicken meat?

Although there is a handful of benefits of chicken meat, some risks need to be considered. Like humans, dogs are discouraged from consuming raw chicken meat. Do not give raw chicken because this imposes threats of salmonella and bacterial infections.

Never use spices like garlic, onions, pepper, etc., in preparing your dog’s food. Always pick the chicken breast when you purchase this meat at the groceries because this portion is low in fat. Fatty foods heighten the risk of pancreatitis in dogs.

However, the feeding of raw chicken meat or chicken bones is growing popular these days. Before you toss anything raw to your dog, it’s wiser to consult a veterinarian about this. Always ask an expert’s opinion if you are not sure of something, especially if your dog’s health is on the line.

Factors to consider before feeding chicken meat or bones to your dog:

First of all, assess your dog whether he is allergic to chicken or not. Beware of hastily feeding chicken to your dog before you determine his health status. Chicken is one of the top 10 food allergens relevant to humans and dogs. Always consult a veterinarian to give you suggestions.

Moreover, take caution and always remove chicken bones from the cooked chicken meat (if there are any) because bones can be easily chipped off when chewing. These easily splinter into varying bits, and the chicken bones may cause choking or gastrointestinal tract punctures, accidents that you must definitely care to avoid.

Here is a chicken recipe that you can try at home. It’s easy and fun to do!

How to store your homemade dog food?

Problems arise when you are home-cooking dog food, and you’re not sure where and how to store it. For sure, we have refrigerators at home that come in handy if there’s extra cooked food for one dog meal. Secure enough Tupperware containers (about 4 or 5) that can store homemade food. Fill these boxes and refrigerate for about a week before the food inside spoils. Note that before feeding the food to your dog, check its appearance and scent.

How often can you feed chicken meat to your dogs?

Before you determine how often you can feed your furry pup with chicken, contact a veterinarian first to ensure the best suggestion. Meanwhile, there are standard dosages about how much chicken your dog can eat in a day. The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) guide says that 640kcals per day is good for your dog of an ideal 33 lbs in weight. That corresponds to about 1/3 cup of chicken breast per day with no other offered treats.
